{"id":18204,"date":"2026-01-02T13:10:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T11:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saka.ee\/jaiste-jugade-retk-saab-alguse-saka-moisa-juurest\/"},"modified":"2026-01-02T13:14:00","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T11:14:00","slug":"jaiste-jugade-retk-saab-alguse-saka-moisa-juurest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saka.ee\/en\/jaiste-jugade-retk-saab-alguse-saka-moisa-juurest\/","title":{"rendered":"The icy waterfall hike starts at Saka Manor."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-el\">Did you know that <strong>Valaste Waterfall<\/strong> is not actually the closest waterfall to us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el\">Just a <strong>10-minute walk<\/strong> from the hotel building of <strong>Saka Manor<\/strong>, on our own property, lies <strong>Kivisilla Waterfall<\/strong>, which is also covered in an icy winter cloak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el\">The waterfall system consists of three larger tiers (from top to bottom <strong>6.0 m<\/strong>, <strong>2.0 m<\/strong>, and <strong>7.5 m<\/strong>) and several smaller tiers (up to <strong>1 m<\/strong>). Altogether, the cascade descends about <strong>48 metres<\/strong> from the cliff down to the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el\">The waterfall is fed by the <strong>Ranna main drainage ditch<\/strong>, which is <strong>2 metres deep<\/strong> and was carved into the limestone bedrock already in the <strong>mid-19th century<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el\"><strong>Kivisilla Waterfall<\/strong> is among the three highest waterfalls in Estonia. With a total drop of <strong>22.8 metres<\/strong>, it ranks second. First place belongs to <strong>Valaste Waterfall<\/strong> with a drop of <strong>30.5 metres<\/strong>, and third place to <strong>Karjaoru Waterfall<\/strong> with <strong>12 metres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el\">During the Soviet era, the area was closed to civilians, as a border guard post was located at <strong>Saka Manor<\/strong>.
